Los Molinos Chamber of Commerce

Meeting of Members

Meeting Minutes for 05/14/08

Our meeting began at 6:39 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance to honor our Country and the attendance sheet being signed by all:  Betty Jo, Mike & Sharron Druey, Mayor Herb, Charles sporting around on his new scooter & Jan.

No guests, no legislative report and the Treasurer’s report is scheduled for the Executive Meeting on May 28th.

We reviewed ‘Candidate’s Night’ held on Thursday May 1st.  Attendance was approximately 40-45 people.  Everyone agreed that it went well, with compliments on our refreshments.

We spent most of our time discussing the Mayor’s Race and the Independence Day Parade.

The money jars for the Mayor’s Race will be in place on May 19th.  We have one serious candidate for Mayor-Shelley Patchen of Nu Way Market.  We needed at least two more names just to round out our jar displays so Rob Morales of Rob’s Recycling and Jan Elmore of Hidden Harbor RV agreed to wage a passive campaign for spare change.

It was noted that in years past, we just have lower interest than in other years.  A work party was formed to prepare the jar displays with the names & photos and get them placed around town at our businesses.  Charles is moving slower this year so additional recruits will be needed for all aspects of the Mayor’s Race; prep & placement of jars, retrieval and the date for counting the money at Umpqua Bank has been set for Monday, June 30th.   Volunteers welcomed for all chores!

The Chamber Fireworks sales will begin at noon on June 28th and continue 9 to 6 each day through July 4th.  We need volunteers to sign up for shift work in the wagon.  Shifts are in 3 hour increments.  It’s our biggest fundraiser and we welcome all who care to help out!

Parade preparations were discussed as well.  We made arrangements to improve on the number system used to place the entrants.  Mayor Herb has this dialed.  We have a ‘cone’ squad headed up by Rob Morales and Larry will place the Explorer units.  There are a lot of chores as we must comply with Cal Trans and the CHP since we’re closing down a State Hwy.

Betty received ‘notice of eligibility’ from the US Navy for air support for our parade.  Now we need to locate a base and secure the actual flyover.  President Betty is handling this project and everyone thought her efforts are very cool indeed.  We talked about purchasing a very large flag for use in the parade and the various display techniques we might employ.

In addition, we are going to invite the City of Red Bluff Fire Dept and their ladder truck and flag for our Parade and/or ‘Play Day in the Park’.

We have adopted the position of no news is good news regarding our stamp cancellation project.  We have heard nothing from the US Postal Service.  So at this point we’re praying that all is on schedule and we’ll be able to cancel stamps as part of our Independence Day activities.

We had good news regarding the restoration of our Miss Los Molinos Scholarship Program.  Betty met with Erin Newton earlier this month and it was a very positive meeting.  Erin has agreed to walk us through our first event and assist us with the press releases, the presentation, the requirements, etc…Erin has experience in these matters and is very gracious with her time and expertise.  We are lucky to have her assistance in restoring the contest to our community!

The idea of holding an annual festival of some kind is still on the books.  We may use the Miss Los Molinos Pageant and the Luau as the anchor activities and hold an event in June of each year.  A lot more discussion to follow.

Announcements were read and we adjourned our Meeting of Members at 7:57 pm.

Respectfully,

Jan Elmore, substitute minute taker
