EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

SEPTEMBER 24, 2008

 

         President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  Members present were Betty Morales, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Sharron Druey, Clarissa Ortner, Jeannie and Ron Gallagher, Nanette Smith, Walter Dodd, Shelley Patchen, Herb Votaw, Jan Elmore and Barbara Whitten.  There were no guests. 

         Betty read the minutes of the September 10 meeting.  The minutes were accepted as corrected.  Treasurer Charles Githens was unable to attend, so Betty Morales read the treasurer’s report.  Walter Dodd gave a Legislative Report and reminded us of the November 4 upcoming election.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

         Blood drive September 11 had a very poor turn out.

         Country Haven Anniversary Mixer was a huge success.  It was a great social event, and attendees brought contributions for the “Food for the Hungry” program.

         Membership dues were discussed.  The Chamber website costs $30 per month and is a real benefit to the businesses who advertise, so it was decided to pay for it the dues should be raised.  Jeannie Gallagher moved to raise dues to $50 for 2009.  The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. 

The question of individuals who don’t have a business wishing to be Chamber members was discussed.  Ron Gallagher moved to raise the dues for individuals to $35.  The motion was seconded, but after more discussion, Ron rescinded the motion.  The discussion continued, with the decision to give individuals a vote and website presence only.  Ron Gallagher moved to raise dues for individuals to $35.  The motion was seconded and carried, with one “no” vote.

Walter recommended the letter and membership application be sent out by end of the year.  After much discussion, Barbara moved to mail letter and membership application in December.  The motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

         Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue, hosted by Ron and Jeannie Gallagher, at their home at 25373 Orange Street was planned.  Invitations will be sent out.  Nanette volunteered Sierra Pacific to pay for invitations.  The barbecue theme will be Halloween, and will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Those helping should be there by 2 p.m.  Barbecued tri tip will be the main dish.

         Customer Service Week is October 6-8.  The Job Training Center will be holding Training Camps for interested employers.  There will be Secret Shoppers—last year Isabel at NuWay was recognized for her customer service skills.

         Candidates’ Night will be held Thursday, October 9, at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall.  The Woman’s Club, with the help of Chamber members, will provide refreshments.  Jeannie Shakeshaft offered to furnish the coffee.  Betty advised 24 invitations were sent out to candidates, with only one confirmation at this time.  Sharron volunteered to be the time keeper again this year, and Donna will take care of voter registration.  October 6 is a Candidates’ Reception in Corning.

         Cal Trans will host a public meeting Tuesday, October 28, regarding the Hwy 99E Project and would like to have help from the Chamber.  The desired location for the meeting is the Veterans Memorial Hall; rent is $125, so the location isn’t firmed up yet.

         Santa Visit will be Saturday, December 6, and polaroid film is still available this year.

         Holiday Mixer is scheduled for Monday, December 8.  Jeannie S. volunteered Umpqua Bank for the event, and Umpqua Regional Manager offered to do a combined chamber/bank open house, with no expense to the Chamber.  Jeannie G. moved to accept the bank’s offer.  The motion and was carried unanimously.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:        Walter announced the Tehama County Fair opens Thursday, September 25, and Betty read the announcements of upcoming events.

         The next Executive Chamber meeting is Wednesday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chamber office.  The meeting adjourned at 8:11 p.m.

MID-MONTH MEETING

SEPTEMBER 10, 2008

 

         President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  Members present were Betty Morales, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Sharron and Michael Druey, Clarissa Ortner, Jeannie and Ron Gallagher, Charles Githens and Barbara Whitten.  There were no guests. 

         Secretary Barbara Whitten read the minutes of the August 27 meeting.  The minutes were accepted as corrected. 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

         Membership was discussed.  Jeannie Shakeshaft noted Umpqua Bank had not paid dues for this year, but that has been taken care of.  Clarissa presented a letter to be sent out to current and prospective members for 2009.  Betty said the letters will go out the second week of January.  With the new website publishing members’ information, it will be imperative to get memberships in on a timely basis.  Dues increase will be discussed at the Executive Board Meeting on September 24.

         The October 25 Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue, hosted by Ron and Jeannie Gallagher, was discussed.  There will be no liquor; costumes are optional.  Sharron Druey moved to have potluck.  The motion was seconded and carried.  Invitations will be sent out to 4th of July volunteers and members and will ask for RSVP.  The meat will be furnished by the Chamber; Betty will work with Shelley Patchen on that part.  Potluck dishes to supplement the meat will be assigned by the last name initials.  There are enough paper plates and cold drinks left from the 4th Playday to serve.  Jeannie S. volunteered coffee.

         Candidates’ Night will be held October 9.  The Woman’s Club will be responsible for refreshments, and as in the past, Chamber members will also help. 

NEW BUSINESS

         Customer Service Week:  There was a letter from Cathy Garcia, Job Training Center, asking the Chamber to be involved.  It is the first week, October 6-10.

         There will be another Blood Drive September 11, from 1 to 6 p.m., in the NuWay Market parking lot.

         Cal Trans will host a public meeting Tuesday, October 28, regarding the Hwy 99E Project and would like to have help from the Chamber.  There was discussion about a location.  Betty will check out the possibilities.

         Country Haven, Red Barn, is holding an Anniversary Mixer Monday, September 22, to celebrate one year in business.  Time is from 6 to 8 p.m.  Sharron is asking attendees to bring some kind of perishable food item to support the community food program.  Invitations will be sent out by end of the week.

         Santa Visit will be held Saturday, December 6.  There was discussion about the place and Santa pictures.  Last year Polaroid pictures were taken, and the picture taking went smoothly; however Polaroid is not making film any longer. 

         Holiday Mixer will be held Monday, December 8, at Umpqua Bank from 6 to 8 p.m.  There will not be liquor.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Los Molinos Chamber Executive Board Meeting will be Wednesday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 p.m. will be the meeting of members.
