LOS MOLINOS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
AUGUST 27, 2008
In the
absence of President Betty Morales, and the vice president vacancy, Secretary
Barbara Whitten called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., followed by the
Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Members present were Herb Votaw, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft,
Shelley Patchen, Sharron Druey, Jan Elmore, Walter Dodd, Michael Druey, Janet
Scheffler and Barbara Whitten. There
were no guests.
Barbara read a message from
Betty, which she advised she was attending the Tehama county chamber
Installation Dinner, and Charlie was having surgery: she talked to Tim Kuhn
form Los Molinos Hardware who asked that his overpayment of dues be put in the
Santa visit account. She mentioned the
Volunteer Barbecue dates; will there be liquor, a costume party (?) and noted
future events happening in the area.
Jan read the minutes of the
August 13 meeting. The minutes were
accepted as read. Treasurer Charles
Githens was not present. He had presented
the July treasurer’s report at the August 13 meeting, so no treasurer’s report
was given.
Walter Dodd gave a
legislative report, which included: county budge of $132M was presented at the
September 17 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting; the Tehama county Library didn’t do
well. There will be no BOS meeting the
day after Labor Day.
The Volunteer Appreciation
Barbecue, hosted by Ron and Jeannie Gallagher, was discussed. Betty had sent word that it could be either
on October 11 or 25. Sharron Druey
moved to hold the barbecue on October 25; the motion was seconded and carried.
Barbara asked if the Work
Day scheduled for August 17 was held.
Jan Scheffler advised it was , and only she and Betty showed up to
work. Good job, Betty and Jan!
Walter Dodd asked if the
Chamber would be hosting a Candidates’ Night and suggested it be held on
October 9 or 16 to be in sync with the mailing of absentee ballots. Herb said he would check the VGW Hall
availability and report to Betty. Walter
will be in touch with Betty to work out the details of sending invitations for
all candidates to participate. Jan
Elmore suggested that those candidates in small surrounding areas be invited,
as well as those that pertain to our particular district. There was discussion, and it was determined
refreshments will be provided for the evening.
Barbara mentioned the Los Molinos Woman’s Club has volunteered in the
past, but others had also brought goodies.
Barbara asked Shelley to
speak about the raffle of two gas cards, $300 and $100. Shelley explained the raffle is now in place
with proceeds to go to “Food for the Hungry.”
Tickets are $1 each or 6 for %5.
The drawing will be October 12.
Los Molins Chamber will meet
Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m.; Execu8tive Board Meeting will be
Wednesday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at
7:05 p.m.
Barbara Whitten, Secretary.
Los
Molinos Chamber of Commerce
Meeting of
Members
08/13/08
Los Molinos Chamber Meeting of Members was called to order
at 6:41.
We honored our country, our military, our veterans and the
flag with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Those in attendance were Betty Joe, Mike Druey, Herb Votaw, Barbara
Ochs, Jan Elmore & Charles Githens.
Janice Horner was also in attendance; future Chamber member in training.
Minutes from the last Executive meeting were read by
Jan. Betty reminded us that our minutes
do need to reflect such details regarding motions and seconds; who initiates
these actions and the outcome of the vote.
Charles read the Treasurer’s reports as he
will not be attending the Executive meeting at the end of August. Most of the receipts and bills are now
in. There are a few outstanding
invoices such as NuWay Market yet to be processed. But for the most part, the July 4th activities are
posted and totals available.
This year we hung out a recycle bag to capture cans
& bottles from refreshments at the Fireworks wagon and that garnered
$4.45. At the next meeting, we’ll
decide which of our working funds this money should be moved to.
Mike D had a question regarding the way the earned
interest on several of the investment funds is reported. Several of our funds pay interest on a
quarterly basis, therefor; the treasurer’s report adds this info on a quarterly
basis as well.
Memberships are coming in. Good results from our ‘reminder
letters’. Clarissa was not in
attendance, but Charles had received the funds. We forgot to put the annual dues amount $ on our reminder letter
and Betty Joe got a lot of calls!
We talked about the article Geoff Johnson wrote for the Red
Bluff Daily News regarding our membership renewal project. Betty wished for a better photo but we all
thought she looked terrific.
Clarissa O and Ron & Jeannie Gallagher had excused
absences! J
The event to thank all the volunteers for their hard work
over the July 4th activities was a topic for conversation as we need
to reschedule the date. Our ‘Volunteer
Appreciation BBQ’ date will be discussed at the Executive meeting on August
27th. We’re thinking it may
still be held in October.
For the ‘unfinished business’ category on our agenda
tonight, we discussed the one missing trophy from the awards portion of PlayDay
in the Park. The replacement trophy
has arrived and will be picked up this week.
The ‘missing trophy affair’ has caused a change in the way we will
manage trophy presentations in future years; probably resulting in a
requirement that the person picking up the trophy will be signing for it.
Under new business, we scheduled a work day
for August 17; Sunday morning for about one hour. We need to complete the task
of repacking the Fireworks wagon with the sign carts and such. Help is always appreciated for work days.
Betty read announcements and e-mails sent to the
Chamber.
The Tehama County Museum Annual Jubilee is Sept 6-all day!
Corning Olive Festival is August 22 & 23.
With the reading of announcements, we adjourned at 7:18 pm
