The meeting was called to order at 6:36, followed by the renewal of the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Herb Votaw.

Present were:  Betty Morales, Barbara Ochs, Herb Votaw, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Michael Druey and Shelly Patchen, Marsha Shebley, John Wells, Jan Elmore, Ron Gallagher, Jeannie Gallagher, Nan Smith, Barbara Whitten and guest Melissa Tallan..

Secretary Barbara Whitten read the minutes of the January 14 meeting.  The minutes were approved as corrected.

Treasurer Charlie Githens was in the hospital, so there was no treasurer’s report.

Walter Dodd, Legislative Reporter, gave a brief on the Board of Supervisors.  The new chairperson is George Russell.  The county is having the same problems as the state, and it is likely county employees will be taking two furlough days a month.  Walter attended the Sanitary Land Fill Meeting and reported Chamber President Betty is the new vice president.  Walter also announced the Corning Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner will be January 31, cost $20.

Unfinished Business

The contract for the Installation Dinner was approved at the last meeting; however, there wasn’t any discussion about the dignitaries’ dinners.  If they don’t pay, the Chamber will assume the cost.  Ron Warner will give awards if needed.  Herb will be available at the Veterans Memorial Hall if needed.  Caterer Linda Lima can get into the hall on Sunday for setup.

Barbara W. is taking care of ABC license—needs to get approvals tonight.  Jan will take care of stocking the bar and will bartend.  Betty has a friend who might loan a bar.

Betty mentioned that members will bring raffle donations.  Businesses will not be asked for donations this year.  She called Judge Noel Watkins to ask if he wanted to swear in officers and directors, and he said he will do it again this year if that’s all he has to do.  The guest speaker will be the Los Molinos High School Principal Charles Ward.

Barbara Ochs will do the registration with the help of Clarissa who volunteered at the last meeting.

Plaques and Certificates of Appreciation will be given to Corning Ford, Sierra Pacific, NuWay Market, Lane’s Tractors, and a Certificate will be presented to Donna Wallan.

Herb will lead the pledge of allegiance, and Mike Druey will give the blessing.

Votes were counted for Business and Volunteer of the Year.  Mike read the ballots while Betty tallied.  Lenny McNabb was voted Volunteer of the Year; Country Haven owned by Sharron Druey was voted Business of the Year.

Jeannie G. asked about volunteer Lenny McNabb.  Betty responded by listing the many volunteer activities he has been responsible for, such as, Christmas baskets, Christmas tree and flag in the shopping center area and is getting ready to put up something to recognize local people serving in the military, to name a few projects.

NEW BUSINESS

Betty advised Charlie wanted to begin selecting a theme for the Fourth of July Parade.  This is the year for the Chamber to select but will table it until next meeting.

John and Marsha had called Betty regarding a sign at Guardian Angel.  Betty checked it out for possible design for “Welcome to Los Molinos” signs the Chamber wants to post at the three entrances into town but felt we need more information from CalTrans before we post any signs.

Jan talked about the town of Hayfork that wanted no part of CalTrans decisions on its highway improvement.  She said she felt Los Molinos would lose its identity if all the suggested improvements would be made here.  Others agreed.  Betty will check when the next public meeting will be held so these issues can be addressed.  Jan asked if the Chamber could poll residents about their feelings.  Betty suggested she draft something to present to the Chamber.

OTHER BUSINESSS

Barbara Ochs asked about the possibility of having a luau.  Betty talked about doing that with another event, such as, Salmon Derby, Mayor’s Race, Miss Los Molinos Pageant.

Shelly recognized Nanette and her scheduling for making the Christmas Bell Ringing such a success this year.  There were new people who volunteered, and this year, due to Nanette’s efforts, $3,070 was collected, compared to $1,940 in 2007.  Good job, Nanette and Shelly!  Shelly also mentioned she wants to have an “Angel Tree” this year.

Betty said Dave Perry, who is the fireworks distributor, has been calling about the Chamber’s application.  Charlie is taking care of it.

Mid-Month Meeting

January 14, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 6:36, followed by the renewal of the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Herb Votaw.

Present were:  Betty Morales, Barbara Ochs, Herb Votaw, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Clarissa Ortner, Charles Githens, Michael Druey and Barbara Whitten.

Second vice president Donna Wallan read the minutes of the December 10, 2008 meeting.  The minutes were approved as corrected.

Unfinished Business

Betty reported Membership applications and ballots for Business and Volunteer of the Year went after last meeting.  Herb asked how interested individuals join the Chamber.  Betty explained the procedure.

Clarissa mentioned some members paid $40 twice last year and chose to use the overpayment for 2009.  They will need to be billed for an additional $10 for the new $50 dues effective 2009.

Charlie gave the treasurer’s report.  Betty asked that the negative BBQ Playday funds be eliminated.  Charlie moved to transfer the negative $128.12 BBQ Playday funds be transferred to the general account.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Betty read the contract from Linda Lima for the installation dinner February 9.  Linda asked for a total county by February 6 and wants to get into the Veterans Memorial Hall on Sunday, February 8.  The menu is prime rib and chicken, for a cost of $18 per person for either.  Cost for linens will be $90, $50 for hors d’oeuvres, for a total of $140 in extras.  She is asking to have her Chamber membership dues of $50 paid so would be a total of $90 over and above the cost of dinners.  Betty offered to check for Key Club members who would help serve, and Linda said she would pay for their meals.  Following discussion about the contract, Barbara Whitten moved to charge $20 per person for 2009 Installation Dinner.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Herb will be sure the Veterans’ Hall is available February 9; Jan will take care of the bar; Barbara W. will take care of the alcohol permit; and Betty suggested members contribute raffle items, which met with approval with those present.

Last year Judge Watkins indicated that would be his last swearing in the officers, directors and alternates.  Just to be sure, Betty will ask him if he wants to do it this year, and if not, will ask Judge Schueller.

Suggested possible guest speakers are Los Molinos School Superintendent Doug Pilger; someone from the Los Molinos Volunteer Fire Department; someone from Tehama County Resource Conservation District; someone from Dye Creek Preserve.  Betty will contact in the order listed until she gets a “yes.”

Charlie said there are $20 silver dollars available that he will purchase to give to the kids for 4th of July celebration.

There was discussion regarding Business of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, which will be voted on at the next after counting ballots.

Executive Board Meeting

February 25th, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m., followed by the renewal of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Present were:  Betty Morales, Melissa Tallan, Barbara Ochs, Herb Votaw, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Marsha Shebley, John Wills, Walter Dodd, Clarissa Ortner, Sharron Druey, Michael Druey, Charles Githens and Ron Gallagher.

Secretary Barbara Whitten was not in attendance so Donna Wallan read the minutes from the February 11th meeting.  The minutes were approved as read, no corrections needed.

Walter Dodd, Legislative Reporter, gave a brief report on the State budget, which was signed late last week after big delay. The budget requires a 2/3 rd vote, which gives power to the majority and was the reason for the long delay. With approval of the budget come six ballot measures and a special election will be held State wide on May 19th, 2009. Walter also talked briefly about the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on February 26th, 2009 regarding the General Plan. This will be a EIR workshop and the purpose is so the general public can review and discuss the General Plan Revisions. Charles Willard, Supervisor Dist. #3 announced hat he will not run for re-election in 2010. February 24th, 2009 was spay Day in Tehama County.

Treasurer Charlie Githens read the Treasurer’s Report. The report was approved as read. Charles also mentioned that he had been talking with Dave from Phantom Fireworks regarding the charge for delivery of the fireworks in 2008. This is something new that Phantom Fireworks is now charging for and they will continue to charge in the future. The delivery cost for 2008 was $238.00.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Installation Dinner – There is a discrepancy regarding dinners served. Barbara Ochs has a count of 69 dinners and Linda Lima has a count of 76. Linda counts plates instead of people or tickets. There were five Key Club Members who volunteered their time and Linda said she would cover their dinner. This might be the reason for the discrepancy. Charles and Betty will review the dinner registration form and will contact Linda regarding the issue. The dinner count needs to be done differently next year so we can avoid this from happening again. There was also a discrepancy last year due to this kind of a count. The overall suggestion is to count tickets, no ticket, no dinner. Linda Lima would like to know if we want to use her services for the Installation Dinner next year. She mentioned that prices may increase, so locking in prices now is recommended. There was discussion about finding a different caterer. This discussion will be continued at a later meeting.

Membership – There are currently 35 members. Reminder notices need to be mailed sometime in Mid-March. There are a few members that either paid too much or too little. Clarissa and Betty volunteered to contact the member so corrections can be made.

Fourth of July Parade – The Parade Theme was voted on and the winning theme is a picture of the original 13 States Flag and the current 50 States Flag with the words Pride & Freedom underneath the pictures. Clarissa volunteered to make the graphics and have a ruff draft available a.s.a.p. Grand Marshall and VIP were discussed. Grand Marshall is usually someone who has been around for quite some time and done a lot for the community and/or the Chamber. VIP is usually someone with more recent accomplishments. We will vote for candidates at the next Executive Board Meeting in March. The County is requesting to be added to the Insurance policy for the Parade and Play Day. This extra endorsement will cost $50.00. Herb will work with the County Parks & Recreation Dept. regarding reserving Mill Creek Park for the Play Day. July 4th is on a Saturday in 2009.

Cal-Trans/Hwy. 99E Project – Betty read Jan Elmore’s letter which was posted in the Red Bluff Daily Newspaper today – 02-25-09. Jan has concerns that some of the improvements planned for Los Molinos might allow Cal-Trans to deny the 4th of July Parade due to Highway width and pedestrian space. There was discussion regarding concerns with the project and members were asked to write letters to the editor and to Cal-Trans regarding their concerns for the project. Betty will send a letter to Cal-Trans regarding the Chambers concerns for the Parade.

Blood Drive – A Blood Drive was held on February 12th, 2009 in front of Nu-Way Market. 12 People donated and 10 units of blood were able to be used to help people in our community. Thank you to all everyone who donated.

NEW BUSINESS

Small Trailer – Discussion was held regarding the small trailer that Mike Druey donated to the Chamber. Someone is interested in trading for a 4x8 trailer that has 2 foot side walls and a tail gate, plus it has new tires and is already licensed. Clarissa made a motion to give the small trailer back to Mike and Charlie 2nd the motion. All present were in favor and motion carried. The trailer once again belongs to Mike Druey and he can do with it as he wishes. Mike stated that he will gladly accept the small trailer back from the Chamber and that he will trade it for the 4x8 trailer mentioned earlier.

March 25—“Get Motivated” Seminar at Arco Arena in Sacramento, group cost $19

Los Molinos Chamber of Commerce

Executive Board Meeting

March 25, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Betty Morales at 6:35 p.m. who led us in the renewal of the pledge of allegiance to the flag.  Present were:  Betty Morales, Barbara Ochs, Donna Wallan, Melissa Tallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Jeannie Gallagher, Ron Gallagher, Jan Elmore, Charles Githens, Walter Dodd, Michael Druey, Barbara Whitten, and Julie Zeeb, representing the Red Bluff Daily News.

Secretary Barbara read the minutes of the March 11 mid-month meeting.  The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer Charlie Githens gave a financial report for the period February 1 through February 28.  Barbara W. questioned the amount of individual dues, $35 or $40.  The check from Richard and Jackie Swiestra was $40 each; however, it should have been $35 each.  Barbara W. was asked to check to see if the Swiestras want to be reimbursed the overpayment or donate it to one of the Chamber’s ongoing projects.

Betty asked that funds be transferred to eliminate negative balances.  The changes will be reflected on the next treasurer’s report.

Legislative reporter Walter Dodd gave a brief report on the latest Board of Supervisors’ (BOS) Meeting: the BOS adopted the Tehama County General Plan; some dog kennel licenses were revoked; more unpaid furloughs for county employees; hiring freeze waived for hiring for health department, sheriff’s office and animal control.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Membership is currently 37.  Next week Clarissa will begin training Betty on website management; they will send out postcards reminding delinquent 2008 members that their dues are past due.

CalTrans:  Betty received a letter and spoke with Steve Rogers, coordinator for the Los Molinos Hwy 99E Project.  The 4th of July Parade will not be affected by future changes, with the exception of the islands that will be placed at each end of town, which will not allow for cones at Rose Street.  This will require rerouting the present route.

Betty also passed out copies of an e-mail received from Adam Hansen, Tehama County Transportation Commission, requesting Chamber input on items that will affect the community.  After discussion regarding the future of Hwy 99E, it was determined that Steve Rogers and Adam Hansen should be invited to the Chamber April 8 meeting to talk about issues that require community input.  In order to accommodate the guests, Betty suggested starting the meeting at 6 p.m.  Mike asked Jeannie S. if we could hold the meeting at Umpqua Bank, and Jeannie agreed to that.  Ron moved to hold the April 8 meeting at Umpqua Bank at 6 p.m.  the motion was seconded and carried.  Betty will send postcards to all Chamber members not at this meeting to advise of the change of location and time.

Jan mentioned Mr. Cheadle has concerns that proposed changes to the corner of Orange and Hwy 99E will render his property useless.

Donna reported on the Hwy 99E 20-year plan meeting she attended.  About 30 people attended and were broken into small groups of 5, then brought back together to pass along comments from each group.  It was a very effective way to let everyone be heard from.

Mayor’s Race:  Betty asked if Chamber had received a letter from Kenny Brewer requesting he be allowed to enter the race, even though he does not meet the age requirement of being 18 to participate.  No letter was received, so Betty will talk to him and advise a letter must be received no later than the April 8 meeting.

Other Unfinished Business:  Jeannie G. asked Jan how the plans for the proposed bar are coming, and Jan advised she is still looking.  Betty communicated with Brenda Moore, American Legion Auxiliary, about co sponsoring a candidate for Girls’ State Conference.  Ms. Moore will be a guest speaker at the April 29 meeting.  The Kiwanis Club and Woman’s Club will also be asking her to speak.

4th of July Parade Grand Marshal and VIP:  Benny Brown will not be Grand Marshal, so Donna will again ask John Verderber to be Grand Marshal.  Ruth Britt was suggested for VIP.  The consensus of the group was to give John until April 29 to decide.  If he chooses not to, ask Ruth to be Grand Marshal and Jan and Dwayne Elmore to be Parade VIP.  Barbara Ochs will contact Ruth.

NEW BUSINESS

Fly-Over:  Jan asked about trying for a fly-over for this year’s parade.  Betty will request approval from FAA and will also try to get a color guard.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  Betty announced April upcoming events, including April 8 Chamber Mid-Month Meeting, Umpqua Bank, 6 p.m. and April 29 Chamber Executive Board Meeting, 6:30 p.m..

Unfinished Business:

Membership: Tehama County Landfill, Red Bluff Daily News are new members: Mill Creed Restaurant renewed its membership.

Website: The website domain is due June 29 at %60 for 2 years, provided by J.R. Whipple.  He is a member of chamber and provides free assistance when asked.

4thof July Parade:  Clarissa has a rough draft of the parade theme; Jan is taking care of the insurance.  We need to decide on VIP and a Grand Marshall.  That will be voted on at next meeting.  Donna Wallan talked to John Verdeber as a possible candidate for Grand Marshall; she felt he might be a willing candidate.  Benny Brown of Corning Ford was mentioned as VIP. Herb reported that the park is reserved for the day.

Cal Trans/Hwy 99E Project:  There will be a meeting on the 99E Project March 16 at Lassen View School.  A Transportation Concept Report will be presented (not to be confused with the Hwy99E/Los Molinos Project) regarding a 20-year plan for a 30-mile stretch from the Butte County line to Red Bluff.  Jan has drafted a letter to Cal Trans regarding the Los Molinos Chamber of Commerce stand on the Hwy 99E/Los Molinos Project-Phase 1.  After reading the draft, Cliff expressed his concern about whether there could be flood control without curbs.  Discussion followed, and Betty will add some comments to the letter and send it to Cal Trans.

Other Unfinished Business:  Treasurer Charlie Githens reported we now have 97 members.  Jeannie G. asked if thee was anything to report on the bar fundraising.  Jan said it is still a work in progress.

New Business:

Mayor’s Race:  Betty had been asked by Kenny Brewer, a senior in high school, if he could run for mayor even though he is not yet 18.  After much discussion, Charlie moved to suspend the Mayor’s Race condition requiring a candidate be 18 years old to run for 2009.  The motion was seconded and carried.  Jeannie G. asked why Kenny wants to run.  Betty talked about how active he is in the community and mentioned how good that would look on a resume as he prepares for college.  He will be advised to send the chamber a written petition getting special permission to run for the 2009 mayor’s Race.

Community Safety Fair:  The fair will be held at the Los Molinos Veterans Memorial hall on Saturday, march 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Representatives from most safety departments will be there with exhibits and to answer questions.

Girls State Co-sponsorship:  Betty was contacted by Brenda More, Corning VFW auxiliary asking for support from the chamber to participate in this event.  Dakota Wade was sent last year, and Emily Anderson is this year’s participant.  Jeannie G. said she felt we should invite Ms. Moore to give us more information.  It is hard to make a decision without hearing more about the program.  It was decided she would be asked to come to a chamber meeting with details.

Announcements:  The Tehama County Republican Party is hosting a Red, White and Blue Banquet on March 31 at a cost of $35 per person.

Jeannie G. told about the needs the Poor and the Homeless (PATH) organization has as it houses homeless persons during the winter at different church each moth.  When she took dinner for the homeless the last time, there was a man with his tow suns who was embarrassed to have to be there but it was necessary.  There was discussion about the upcoming fundraiser on April 4.

Betty read a letter from the Office of the Governor responding to the Chamber installation Dinner held in February.

Many upcoming events were announced.

Donna mentioned she saw and ad on TV for a Kodak printer (which we need for our Santa Visit pictures) for #149.

Sharron had given Betty info regarding a different caterer to be considered for the next installation dinner.  The cost would be $14.99.  Linda Lima has let us know she will have to raise the price next year.

Betty told of participating in the Dr. Seuss “Read Across America” on February 2.

Executive Board Meeting Minutes

April 29, 2009

President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.  The renewal of the pledge of allegiance to the flag followed.  Guests Brenda Moore and Dolores May, from the American Legion Auxiliary, and Adam Hansen, Tehama County Transportation Planner, were introduced.  Members present were:  Betty Morales, Clarissa Ortner, Walter Dodd, John Wills, Marsha Shebley, Sharron Druey, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Donna Wallan, Michael Druey, Jeannie Gallagher, Ron Gallagher, Jan Elmore Nan Smith, Barbara Ochs and Barbara Whitten.

Brenda Moore spoke about the Girls’ State Program and the opportunity it offers a high school junior to learn about the many facets of government through role playing.  She explained the auxiliary is running out of money and will not be able to sponsor a Los Molinos High School participant next year unless funds (approximately $500) can be raised by local service clubs or businesses to support the Program.

Betty advised she would be in touch with Betty to set up meetings with the Kiwanis and Woman’s Club to request needed funds for next year.

Adam Hansen passed pictures of examples of the proposed community information bulletin board and possibilities for crosswalks, lights and other beautification and safety ideas to be installed on Highway 99E.  The transportation department is looking for recommendations for the projects.  There will be a meeting on May 27 at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall to discuss the community’s input.  He also asked for the Chamber’s opinion about the proposed move of the TRAX bus stop from the present location at the southwest corner of Grant to the southeast side of the street between the Mexican Panderia and the former A-1 Parts building.  The consensus of the Chamber members was positive.  Barbara O’Keefe spoke about also applying for federal funds to help with future projects.

Betty asked Jeannie and Donna from Umpqua Bank if it would be possible to set up a mock polling place at the bank to have pictures of possibilities for projects and have the community vote about preferences.  They agreed to do that, and it was decided the information would be available for Transportation after our next meeting on May 13.

Betty postponed reading of minutes until later in the meeting and asked about making the minutes available for review prior to the meeting to eliminate reading the minutes at meetings.  Discussion followed.  Clarissa moved to eliminate reading minutes at each meeting by having minutes posted to website and hard copy available before meeting for those who do not have computers so executive board minutes can be approved/corrected at next executive board meeting and the same for mid-month meetings.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Charlie gave the treasurer’s report, which included transfers of funds that were decided on at the previous meeting.  Barbara W. questioned individual dues, $35 or $40.  Individual dues are $35.

Walter gave the Legislative report, which included:  May 19 special election with six ballot measures; Gerber pool demolition; American Cancer Society Relay for Life May 16 & 17 at Vista School in Red Bluff; Crime Victims’ Rights Week April 27-May 2; public hearing May 12 for setting and amending new building fees.

Charlie reported he had correspondence from the Fire Department regarding the use of a truck that was used for the judging platform in years past but is considered to be a fire hazard.  Jeannie G. has a 24-foot flat bed trailer that can be used for the platform.  Michael Druey will be a judge this year.

Volunteer Appreciation B.B.Q.:  Betty asked if we wanted to have the “2nd Annual” event.  If so, when and where?  The Gallaghers volunteered to host it again this year in their barn.  Last year was a huge success, but it was suggested to rent a porta potty and have signs posted at the end of Orange Street.  It will be potluck again, with tri tip as a main course.  The date is tentatively set for October 31, with a Halloween theme.  Costumes are optional.

LOS MOLINOS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MID-MONTH MEETING MINUTES

JULY 8, 2009

President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m., followed by the renewal of the pledge of allegiance.  Betty welcomed guests Cliff Carlson and Janice Horner.  Members present were Betty Morales, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Jeannie Gallagher, Jan Elmore, Charles Githens, Melissa Tallan, Mike Druey, Barbara Ochs, Sharron Druey, Ron Gallagher and Barbara Whitten.

The minutes of the June 10 meeting were approved as corrected.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mayor’s Race – Isabel Rosales elected honorary mayor with most funds, $7,772.92, collected.  Runners up were, in order of funds raised, Donna Wallan, Rick Springer, Melissa Tallan, Jan Elmore and Kelly Martin.  Thanks to all who participated.

People are already interested in running next year.  The High School principal asked for an application for membership and is interested in serving on the board.

There were questions regarding the criteria for mayor as to whether the candidates had to be Los Molinos residents.  The criteria were clarified to recognize candidates who either live in Los Molinos or work in Los Molinos.

Fireworks Booth – Betty had some issues with fireworks vendor because Chamber return inventory didn’t match vendor’s count of returns.

Fourth of July Parade & Playday – The registration committee reported the registration went well.  There were 96 entries, 92 entries were judged.  Some entries took too long performing in front of judges’ stand, so next year’s information sheet will include instructions for no longer than 30 seconds performance.  It was noted that parade staff should be identified.  The consensus was to wear vests designated as “staff.”

Jeannie Gallagher moved to have Jan Elmore look into parade vests for future parades.  The motion was seconded and carried.  Jan will check the internet and bring her findings to a meeting.

Betty noted areas that were overlooked.  (1) The beginning ceremonies need to be announced prior to the parade start.  (2) There was help designated to put out the cones prior to the parade, but there was no one assigned to help pick up cones after parade.

The Highway Patrol escorted the cone pick up.

Jeannie Gallagher reported the food concession went well, but there were no guidelines for what to plan for.  She advised there will be this year’s records available for guidance next year.  It was set up for buyers to pay, pick up plate and get food; that worked well for money control.  Condiment packets were used.  The popsicles were a hit—gave away 300.  Melissa and Jeannie asked about recycle bins for cans.  Betty suggested contacting GreenWaste next year and also felt porta potties were a must for next year.

Jan Elmore suggested checking with Board of Supervisors about updating Mill Creek facilities.  It was noted that Little League provides porta potties for their games.

There were popsicle wrappers on the ground to be picked up, so need to make kids responsible for that by having them “dash for trash” in future.  The games were over at 3 p.m.

Mike talked about awards and suggested separate class for military vehicles and autos, judges look into prizes and divisions and make distinctions to keep from overlapping.  Registration forms need last name first and change it entry form also.

Chamber of Commerce Minutes                   -2-                       Meeting July 8, 2009

Mike also asked about sending letters to auto entries to find out how the parade could be made better from their perspective.  The consensus was to do that.

Janice Horner mentioned looking at placement of horses and also the need for an interpreter for Spanish speaking persons who are registering.

Jan Elmore talked about having some local flight club provide flyover about 10:20 a.m., just as the parade is getting underway.

NEW BUSINESS

Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue – Discussion was held about where and when to have the 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue.  The Gallagher’s graciously offered their barn again this year.  It was tentatively decided to hold it October 31 and use a Halloween theme again.  More to be decided at a later meeting.

Charlie announced he bought a new printer (for the Chamber).

Janice mentioned a fire at Electric Avenue and volunteered to take any items collected to the location.

Melissa reported Vinnie Casa Grande’s father died.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Barbara O’Keefe, Transportation Department, sent notice of workshop on economics and demographics to be held August 26 in Red Bluff.

Charlie announced that since the 2010 parade theme will be supplied by the VFW, it will be “Independence Forever.”

Betty announced upcoming chamber meetings—July 29, August 12 and August 26.

The meeting adjourned 8:22 p.m.

Executive Board Meeting Minutes

August 26, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Betty Morales at 6:41 p.m.  Betty led us in the renewal of the pledge of allegiance.  There were 14 members present:  Barbara Ochs, Ron Gallagher, Jeannie Gallagher, Donna Wallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Clarissa Ortner, Marsha Shebley, John Wills, Walter Dodd, Melissa Tallan, Michael Druey, Betty Morales, Herb Votaw and Barbara Whitten.  There were no guests.

The minutes were approved as corrected.  Treasurer Charles Githens was in the hospital, so no treasurer’s report was given.

Walter Dodd gave a legislative report.  He advised of the upcoming county-wide election November 3; voluntary retirement bonuses of $10,000 have been offered by the county to some department heads; the county budget was adopted with lots of program cuts.  Betty asked about the septic tank legislation, no action at this time; Clarissa asked about reassessments on property and whether it lowers taxes.  Walter responded that reassessments have made a difference to tax payers who bought when property was selling high; Jeannie S. went through the process and realized a difference in the tax adjustment.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Santa Visit – There was approval at the last meeting for the Chamber to partner with the VFW to purchase a community camera and printer that are blue tooth compliant.  Mike reported the camera is very pricey. Alternatives are to see if polaroid film is available at a discounted price since it has been discontinued.  Betty reported that the Los Molinos Elementary School Booster Club would like to partner with the Chamber and VFW on the Santa Visit.  There was much discussion.  It was decided to meet with the Booster Club to see how it could work and then the two organizations meet with the VFW members with a proposal.  Betty, Clarissa, Melissa and Barbara W. will meet with the Booster Club.

NO NEW BUSINESS

Mid-Month Meeting Minutes

President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:40p.m., followed by the renewal of the pledge of allegiance to the flag.  Present were Betty Morales, Melissa Tallan, Donna Wallan, Sharron Druey, Jan Elmore, Barbara Ochs, Barbara Whitten and guest Janice Horner.

The minutes of the July 8 mid-month meeting were approved as corrected.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

4th of July Parade & Play Day:  Clarissa has put together DVDs of the parade, cost $10, listed on the website.

Volunteer Appreciation B.B.Q:  The barbecue will be held October 31 at Ron and Jeannie Gallagher’s barn, with a Halloween theme, costume optional, tri-tip potluck, porta potty on site, and will begin at 5 p.m.

Santa Visit:  Saturday, December 5 is the tentative date depending on availability of the Veterans Memorial Hall.  Betty said we need a printer for this year’s event since polaroid film is no longer feasible (cost is prohibitive).  Santa arrives on a fire truck, and the elves escort Santa inside.  The children line up to sit on Santa’s lap to have picture taken.  Children are given a coloring book and crayons to keep them busy while waiting.  Picture with Santa, cookies and a gift are furnished.  Last year polaroid pictures were taken, but this year the cost of film is prohibitive.  It is time to get a blue tooth printer to produce pictures at a speed to be able to provide the pictures on a timely basis.  Mike explained how the picture taking works and why that requires blue tooth enabled technology.  Mike asked what kind of budget is available.  Betty said the Chamber has donated $500 in the past, and there is currently $467 in the Santa account.  There was much discussion regarding all that the Chamber does for this community event.  Jan asked about sending letters for donations, which Betty has done each year.  However, it is expected donations might be down this year due to economy.  The Boosters Club from the elementary school had a Santa event last year and sold pictures but was not very profitable.  Mike said as a community organization this is something we do.  Sharron moved to check on the cost of a camera and printer that are blue tooth enabled.  Discussion followed regarding the many events that such equipment would be available for.  Sharron rescinded her motion after the discussion.  Charlie moved to use joint Chamber and VFW 4th of July funds to purchase a camera and printer to be used for all community events.  The motion was seconded and carried.  Charlie will withdraw $500 to give President Betty for the purchase.  Charlie gave a report on the cost of the Santa Visit.

More Volunteer Appreciation B.B.Q.:  Charlie moved to transfer $100 from Chamber general fund into the barbecue account.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Other Unfinished Business:  Charlie asked if there was going to be help with web site cost.  Betty said there is a lot of activity on site and felt businesses would help support site.  She recapped:  $100 to volunteer barbecue; $500 from parade fund to purchase printer and camera to be used for all future community events.  Stuart Wade, parade tractor class winner, still has not received his check, and the check has not been returned.  It will be reissued if not cashed by the end of the month.

NEW BUSINESS

Clarissa is looking at some changes for the Chamber web page, chamber logo and links to events.  She wrote to J. R. Whipple and learned he would charge $500 to $700 for changes.  Clarissa believes she can do it.  J.R. recommended charging businesses $2 per day for advertising, with an introduction offer of $1 per day.  The web page should be able to fund itself.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  September 12—T.C. Museum Jubilee; August 28--Friends of NRA banquet Rolling Hills, cost $50; October 14—Chamber Annual Meeting; October 31—Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue, 5 p.m.

Los Molinos Chamber of Commerce

Mid-Month Meeting Minutes

December 9, 2009

President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:35p.m., followed by the renewal of the pledge of allegiance to the flag.  Present were Betty Morales, Melissa Tallan, Donna Wallan, Jan Elmore, Ron Gallagher, Michael Druey, Clarissa Ortner, Barbara Whitten, Sharron Druey and guest Marcelina Lee from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Marcelina was visiting to set up a location to recruit and test for the U.S. Census Bureau for about a month.  She is recruiting for approximately 100 census takers from Southern Tehama County, Butte and Glenn Counties to the Oregon and Nevada borders.  She is looking for a testing site for Los Molinos for English speaking in the mornings and Spanish speaking in the afternoons.  After questions and discussion, Sharron moved to allow Marcelina to use the Chamber facilities for testing.  Jan asked about insurance.  Marcelina assured the body that there was insurance for this program.  The motion was seconded and carried.  There will be major hiring through at least March, possibly through May.  The testing will begin December 28, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Mike asked about toilet repair if we are going to have people coming in using the facility.  Betty will contact the attorney tomorrow to see if she can get authorization for the repair.

Secretary pro-tem Clarissa Ortner read the minutes of the November 11 meeting, which were approved as corrected.

Mike gave a financial update.  The members thanked him for his hard work in getting the financial records in order.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Santa Visit was discussed.  This was the first year of working with the Booster Club from the elementary school, and there were some glitches that can be worked out if it is decided to try to combine the effort next year.  Picture taking was down from previous years, not enough publicity.  The fishing booth was a great hit and kept the kids occupied.  The Chamber made $9.25 from it but was not meant to be a fundraiser.

Holiday Mixer was a big success, as always.  There were a lot of door prizes, and the food was excellent and enjoyed by all the attendees.

2010 Membership Drive will begin with letters going out next week to members.

Installation Dinner is in the planning stages.  Jeannie Gallagher is looking for caterers and costs but needs some guidelines.  Betty will be in touch to advise what has been done in past years.

NEW BUSINESS

Salvation Army Bell Ringing needs volunteers.  Shelley Patchen has a sign up sheet at NuWay Market and is coordinating the bell ringing volunteers with Nanette Smith.  Donna advised she also has one at the bank.

Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce sent a communication to advise the Red Bluff 2010 4th of July planning is beginning with a meeting December 17.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Next chamber meeting December 30 at Chamber office, 6:30 p.m.

Mike Druey announced a church meeting at the Druey’s home Saturday, 5 p.m.  It is a Lord’s Supper Potluck.

Executive Board Meeting Minutes

December 30, 2009

President Betty Morales called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. and led the body in the renewal of the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Betty introduced guest Roger Estes from the Gerber Chamber of Commerce.

Members attending were Betty Morales, Melissa Tallan, Jeannie Shakeshaft, Donna Wallan, Clarissa Ortner, Ron Gallagher, Jeannie Gallagher, Jan Elmore, Mike Druey, Barbara Ochs, Sharron Druey and Barbara Whitten.  Guest Janice Horner also attended.

Secretary Barbara Whitten read the minutes of the November 25 meeting; minutes were approved as read.

Mike Druey gave a treasurer’s report and a proposed 2010 budget that he and Betty worked together to prepare.

Betty asked to have revenue reflected on proposed budget.

Everything from the 4th of July account investments go into its general fund.

There was no paper trail for the “petty cash” reported in previous financial reports.  The county has returned all of the Chamber’s cash boxes.

Jan Elmore suggested “petty cash” was possibly more of a concept than actual.

Betty and Mike will meet with attorney Tuesday, January 5.  Mr. Albright is the attorney for Charles Githens' estate and the executor.

Charlie’s property was sold to an auctioneer company.  Betty will get forms to submit any bills or assets the Chamber should collect from the estate.  The fireworks booth and trailer are known to belong to the Chamber.  The Chamber will have first choice of items it may want to purchase.

Betty reported that the Chamber has a storage area at Ochs Storage that has never paid anything for.

Jeannie Gallagher suggested the Chamber get insurance quotes from a couple firms to be sure the Chamber is insured in 2010.  She also requested that all future investments or funds transferred in Chamber accounts be presented before the Chamber board before any action is taken.

Melissa reported projects co-sponsored with the VFW did not involve money.  The Chamber and VFW worked together providing enough manpower for projects.

Betty said the “Volunteer of the Year” and “Business of the Year” forms will be sent out to be voted on and presented at the installation dinner.

Jeannie Gallagher, Installation Dinner chairman, asked for records of Installation Dinner for the last two years.  Betty will provide that information.  Jeannie reported the information she has gathered for catering for the 2010 event:  Special Times Catering $23, Chico Catering $20.02, Corning Exchange $20 if we want prime rib, $18.50 for tri-tip and chicken.

Clarissa Ortner moved to lock in bid from Corning Exchange Club to cater the Installation Dinner.  Motion was seconded.  Discussion followed regarding hors d’oeuvres, servers, paper plates, insurance, left overs and number attending.  Jeannie will get that information and report at next meeting.  Motion was accepted.

Betty advised the U.S. Census Bureau will be in the Chamber office Monday, January 4, testing at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  A plumber was hired, and the toilet is working.

Betty reported $650 donations received for Santa Visit, $350 Sierra Pacific, $100 Umpqua Bank, $200 Bell Carter.

Betty received communication from the following:  Los Molinos Volunteer Fire Department--holding a tri-tip dinner May 9, cost $9 for adults, $6 for children and $30 for family; Christmas card from Doug LaMalfa; Phantom Fireworks; Blood Source, Corning, January 4; last weekend each month electronic collection (Rob’s Recycling will accept electronics any time); Tehama County Fair Board announcing its 2nd annual 4th of July event.  The Fair Board is hoping to have bicycles and tractors in the Los Molinos 4th of July Parade.

The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.  Next meeting January 13, 2010.

Barbara Whitten, Secretary
